College vs. High School Most everyone knows that going from high school to college is a huge transition. My sister, Madison Fick, is a sophomore at the University of South Dakota. She is going to school for Medical Laboratory Science with a minor in public health. She got the idea of doing that from when I had a disease called HSP (Henoch-Schonlein Purpura). Ever since then she has always known she has wanted to go into the medical field and it helped that she loved biology in high school.
Since I’m still only in high school I wanted to have an idea which of the two were better. Madison had a hard time choosing but she had to go with college. She went with college because “there’s more freedom” as she says. She liked high school because you could play sports, the school work was easier, and being able to be with your high school friends all the time. Her best memory from high school is getting into playoffs in volleyball and her senior year prom. But overall, Madison says, college is better because of having more freedom, new friends, doing things when you want, and not having class all day.
History Made Together: the way you play on a team. This word is what the Hills-Beaver Creek volleyball team is formed around. This year was a season to remember for the Hills-Beaver Creek 2016 volleyball team. These girls accomplished a lot. Their highest praised achievement was winning the first ever H-BC volleyball Red Rock Conference Championship. They had an overall record of 23-3 and in conference play ended with a 10-0 record giving them first in the conference. This years’ team was coached by Susan Bork and consisted of seven seniors, four juniors and one sophomore. One of the seniors, Mekayla Kolbrek, told me that it was an awesome experience to be the first team ever to win conference
champions for H-BC. “To be able to come back and see the banner hanging up and know that it was my senior year and we were the first team to do it" is what she said she is looking forward to in the future. I was the sophomore on this team and I totally agree with Mekayla, this was one of the best feelings to know that we were the first ones to make history for this volleyball program. This team was a team that finished what needed to be done. They played TOGETHER. The H-BC volleyball ended their phenomenal season on November 1st in Worthington, MN against the to #2 seeded team in the section (H-BC #3). The girls fought hard but couldn’t pull off the upset. As coach always says, “Win or lose, you always play your best.”
